Holliswood, Queens – A tragic shooting in Holliswood, Queens, has left a 17-year-old girl dead, adding to a growing number of violent crimes impacting women and young girls in New York City.

According to police reports, the shooting occurred inside a residence on Clover Place shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday. NYPD officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire and discovered the teenager unconscious and bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency responders transported her to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have taken a 16-year-old boy into custody for questioning, though no arrests have been made. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and investigators are still determining whether the shooting was intentional or accidental.

This devastating incident comes amid increasing concerns over violence against women and girls in New York City. In recent months, the city has seen a disturbing uptick in violent crimes targeting women, including shootings, domestic violence cases, and random assaults in public spaces.

In January 2025 alone, multiple high-profile cases highlighted the vulnerability of women in the city. A woman was attacked and slashed with a box cutter inside an Upper East Side subway station, while another was robbed and sexually assaulted in Brooklyn Heights in broad daylight.

According to NYPD crime data, reports of domestic violence-related homicides and violent assaults against women have seen a 10% increase compared to the previous year. Gun-related deaths among young women have also risen, particularly in domestic disputes and neighborhood violence.

As investigations into the Holliswood shooting continue, local activists and city officials are calling for increased measures to protect women and young girls from violent crime. Advocates stress the importance of gun control, better community intervention programs, and more resources for women facing violence at home or in public spaces. Law enforcement agencies have urged anyone with information regarding the Queens shooting to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

For women who may be in unsafe situations, resources such as Safe Horizon (1-800-621-HOPE) and NYC’s Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-621-4673) are available for support and crisis intervention.

The senseless loss of a 17-year-old girl’s life serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need to address gun violence and violence against women. As the NYPD continues its investigation, the city mourns another young life cut short, while advocates push for stronger protections and systemic change.
